NAVTEQ European Satellite Navigation Competition Prize Winner Takes Grand Slam!

We’re excited to announce Making Virtual Solid (MVS) as the winner of NAVTEQ’s Special Topic Prize for Best Mobile Enterprise Solution at the 2011 European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) Awards. MVS will receive a business incubation package valued at over €75,000 in data licenses, technical consulting and business development services. ESNC is an international competition that seeks navigational concepts that harness the increased accuracy and reliability provided by Europe's satellite navigation system, Galileo.

MVS was chosen by NAVTEQ for its location-aware mobile True3D Head Up Display (HUD). The True3D HUD is used to safely portray objects as translucent overlays in the landscape, inside the natural field of view while driving, using an immersive augmented reality projection system. The system can pull preferences from a smartphone to display safety and navigational symbols that enhance real objects and images on the road in front of the driver.

The True3D HUD is also ideal for displaying driver-selected commerce options, such as location-based offers and information about local businesses, while still prioritizing safety.

NAVTEQ selected MVS as the winner from a competitive field of over 40 mobile enterprise solution ideas received from around the world. Each submission was evaluated on a strict set of judging criteria that included innovation, marketability, feasibility and effective implementation of location content.

MVS was also crowned both the U.S. regional prize winner and the overall Galileo Master at the 2011 ESNC. MVS was selected for the grand prize from among the more than 30 other regional winners by an international judging panel comprised of executives from leading aerospace, satellite navigation and location technology companies. More than 400 projects in total from 50 countries were submitted to ESNC in 2011.
